Description
Creating images and artefacts is one of the most basic and vital of human activities. Art has a major role to play in the development of responsive, aware and critical individuals. All pupils have equal access to all aspects of art and are encouraged in a variety of ways to develop skills and specialities that are both common yet peculiar and unique. Art can be complex, profound, serious or humorous, but above all, it must be fun.
What will I Learn?

The G.C.S.E. course aims to encourage and develop creative expression, focusing on breaking down the formal elements (tone, line, shape, shade, colour, texture, pattern and form) to produce a personal response via A3 sketchbooks. Sketchbooks will be used to record observations, experiences and ideas to form final pieces. Pupils will also be expected to analyse and evaluate artists work and make connections from their work to the work of others. Pupils will also develop and explore ideas using different media and processes.

How will I be Assessed

Practical Examination and task-based controlled assessment

FINAL EXHIBITION The culmination of the course is the G.C.S.E. Art Exhibition which enables students to exhibit their work, both for moderation purposes and public consumption.

What are the Costs?

Pupils will need to purchase an A3 sketchbook. We also recommend a range of sketching pencils, a rubber, colouring pencils and a set of paints to aid coursework at home.

An integral part of the course involves students in Year 10 visiting both the Tate Britain and the Tate Modern Galleries in London, upon which particular projects will be based. Pupils will also have the chance to visit local galleries to support their research. Year 11 will involve a visit to relevant exhibitions to aid their final exam in March.
