Description
A Levels are highly regarded qualifications, which offer many opportunities from entering higher education to gaining a better job. A full A Level consists of an AS Level and an A2 Level. An AS Level is a valuable qualification in its own right, but many people complete the A2 Level also, particularly those wishing to progress to university. Usually, you will study up to four subjects at AS Level and three at A2 Level; however, alternative programmes of AS and A2 Levels are possible and may be discussed with your tutors.
What will I Learn?
Subjects include:
  • Financial accounting,
  • Accounting for management and decision-making
  • Published accounts.

Students will gain:
  • An understanding of the importance of effective accounting information systems and an awareness of their limitations through a critical consideration of current financial issues and modern business practices;
  • An understanding of the purposes, principles, concepts and techniques of accounting;
  • The transferable skills of numeracy, communication, ICT, application, presentation, interpretation, analysis and evaluation in an accounting context;
  • An appreciation of the effects of economic, legal, ethical, social, environmental and technological influences on accounting decisions;
  • A capacity for methodical and critical thought which would serve as an end in itself, as well as a basis for further study of accounting and other subjects.
What are the Entry Requirements?
For A2 you should have studied the relevant AS in this chosen subject.

In order to start an A Level programme, you will need five GCSEs at Grade C or above in English and Maths. Some courses require more specific subjects. See the relevant AS Level for more information.
How will I be Assessed
All AS and A2 units are assessed through independent assessment and holistic assessment is addressed within A2 units.

Assessment is usually through
written examinations or coursework.
What are the Costs?
If you are a learner aged 16-18 tuition for full-time courses is FREE. Course materials are payable by all learners.

There is a standard materials fee of £50 for your area of study, which is payable by all learners. In addition there may be further charges for specialist equipment, educational visits etc. These will be explained to you by the interviewing tutor. The Colleges Learner Support Fund may be able to assist you with these costs, refer to the website for further details.
Future Opportunities?

Students studying A2 Levels will usually progress to university and a wide range of degree courses or may choose to begin a career in their chosen field.
